Our Cubano Stations: A Client Favorite

Whether you’re a proud local or planning a destination event in Tampa, there is one cuisine we can’t recommend enough. It’s approachable, delicious, and rooted in our city’s history. We are, of course, talking about Cuban food.

Tampa’s Cuban Influence

Tampa’s Cuban history dates back to the 1520s, when the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto sailed from Cuba to visit the area. It was hundreds of years before Vicente Martinez-Ybor would bring the cigar industry to Tampa in 1886, creating historic Ybor City, and bringing waves of immigrants to the area. In 1905, Cuban immigrant Casimiro Hernandez Sr. opened Ybor City's famed Columbia Restaurant, where you can still enjoy authentic Cuban cuisine today.

Since we are both foodies, we took our station menu very seriously. We chose a Tampa Cubano theme which featured an incredibly tasty and authentic Cuban menu.

What is a SaltBlock Station?

This popular catering style is similar to a buffet but offers numerous advantages. Unlike a buffet, stations are typically themed and, with multiple stations, help to minimize long lines. Dishes are often cooked or assembled to order, providing guests with a memorable and entertaining experience. Depending on the station, guests can also make specific requests or modifications to their meal.

Why you’ll love a SaltBlock Station —

  • May include onsite cooking, providing an engaging and entertaining experience

  • Chef-attended to answer guest questions, serve or assist guests, and keep dishes replenished

  • Encourages mingling and networking among guests

  • Provide variety, especially with multiple stations

  • Great for themed events or highlighting a specific cuisine

  • Multiple stations help disperse guests and reduce service time

At SaltBlock, we have several themed stations to choose from including a raw bar, tacos, barbecue, Italian, Asian, and, of course, Cuban!

What is the Cubano Station?

The Cubano Station has been one of our core offerings since we founded SaltBlock Catering in 2014. It is a customer favorite and go-to for events big and small. The menu includes four authentic main dishes and three side dishes.

Have guests with dietary restrictions? Our menu is purposely designed to accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free diets. Need a vegetarian option? We recommend adding a salad and including all three side dishes for a balanced, filling, and satisfying meal that is sure to please non-meat eaters!
