The Sixth Win: What Tampa’s Best Caterer Means to Us Now

Tampa Magazine 2026 Best of the City Winner badge overlaid on a close-up photo of plated pasta with caviar on a black plate, with additional plates visible in the background on a wooden table.

Tampa’s restaurant scene was getting better every year. Catering wasn’t.

That was one of the first things Ryan Conigliaro and Scott Roberts noticed before SaltBlock became SaltBlock. They were attending networking dinners, nonprofit galas, weddings, and private events across Tampa Bay, and the pattern was hard to miss: beautiful rooms, thoughtful programs, well-dressed guests, and food that too often felt like the part everyone had learned to accept as “just fine.”

That never sat right with them.

Food served in a ballroom, warehouse, field, tent, venue, or private home should feel intentional. It should still reflect the care of a real kitchen. And when guests remember the event later, the meal should not be the thing the host has to apologize for.

That belief became the foundation of SaltBlock and what we mean when we say Raise the Bar. And now, SaltBlock has won Tampa Bay’s Best Caterer for the sixth year in a row.

The food is the starting point

SaltBlock has grown, but the belief has not changed.

Every menu is still developed in-house around scratch-made, chef-driven food cooked without industrial seed oils. Ingredients from our own farm and other intentional growers help shape what lands on the plate, while in-house dry-aging and a full in-house pastry program keep more of the culinary work under our roof and in the hands of the team responsible for it.

But the food is only the starting point.

The work begins weeks before service, with planning, sourcing, and staffing decisions that shape how the event will actually run once guests arrive. It shows up when the food flows with the room, when a planner can rely on a catering partner without having to manage them, and when a guest, no matter the dietary needs, receives a plate that was planned for, not improvised. Most of that work happens out of sight, but guests feel the difference.

Six years later, the standard means more

When SaltBlock was recognized for five consecutive years, we talked about excellence, innovation, and heart. Those words still matter, but they have become more tangible with time.

Excellence means the food has to hold up in real event conditions, not just in a controlled kitchen.

Innovation means noticing what a guest sees and smells before they taste anything, not adding something flashy for the sake of attention.

Heart means remembering that hospitality is personal. It is the guest who needs something different on the plate. The planner carrying a dozen moving pieces at once. The host who wants to be present instead of solving problems in the background.

That is also why the conversation around SaltBlock has expanded beyond food alone.

In our Beyond the Plate blog, our founders go deeper on where luxury catering is headed, and why sourcing and service have to move together for an event to feel like one thing instead of five.

Tampa helped shape this company

SaltBlock is a Tampa company in the truest sense.

The city gave us the problem to notice, the fix we wanted to make, and the standard we had to meet: as Tampa's restaurant and hospitality scene kept growing, why should catering feel several steps behind?

We used that question to invest in our team, our farm, our pastry and dry-aging programs, our venue and vendor relationships, and the creative details that make an event feel specific to the people in the room.

It also pushed us further into our community.

From harvest dinners with Meacham Urban Farm to nonprofit events and causes across Tampa Bay, food has a way of making people gather, give, celebrate, remember, and come back to the table.

Thank you, Tampa Bay

To every couple, planner, company, nonprofit, venue partner, vendor, guest, and team member who helped make this sixth year possible… thank you.

Thank you for trusting us with your weddings.

Thank you for calling us for the client dinner that had to feel right.

Thank you for bringing us into the event you needed people to remember.

Thank you for expecting more from catering.

Six years running as Tampa Bay’s Best Caterer is an honor. More than that, it is a reminder to keep doing this work the way it deserves to be done: food at the center and a team ready to help you host with confidence. Because Tampa Bay didn’t hand us this award for what we did in year one. They handed it to us again, for what we’ve kept doing every year since.
